Design Brief

SHALaNEST is an environmental and sustainable architectural design proposal for a yoga studio expansion, for Vale De Moses Yoga Retreat located in Oleiros, in the region of central Portugal.

The brief for the project was to design an additional yoga space facility as well as to extend the current studio doubling its capacity. As the current shala is constructed of wood and glass and floats above the gardens with stunning views down into the valleys, the new studio would follow natural and modern energy-efficient materials, suitable to its location in a steep-sloped mountain forest.

The purpose of the yoga house is to inspire guests and to allow them to connect with nature and the surrounding environment. The building would also offer protection from the heat of the sun in summer, and from the strong winds and rain in winter.
